Enchanted Fairy Garden
for small living quarters
by Wendy Kathleen
Even if you dwell in an apartment, have a tiny backyard or porch, you can still invite the magic of the fairies into a miniature garden. All you need is a few tools, a dash of imagination and the enchantment of the fae to bring about a garden brimming with fairy magic.
1.Start with a medium sized potting container. I used one that was 14” wide x 7” deep. Fill the pot nearly to the top with good quality potting soil.
2.Pick out an assortment of small flowers and greens. You will want to go for a wide variety of colors. There are no wrong or right plants for your garden. Pick those that call to you.
3. Start by planting your largest flowers first. When you take the plant out of its container, it is important to gentle break off the bottom half inch of the coiled roots and gentle message them. By doing this you are encouraging the growth of the flower in its new home. You will want to place them near the back so that your eye will be drawn in that direction.
4. Continue adding your flowers and plants, remembering to break off and message the roots. You will want to place your plants as close together as possible to give the impression of a fully grown garden. ***Be sure to leave areas without plants where you will put a road, stream or other items. This will require some planning an imagination on your part.***
Finish by lightly watering your new garden.
5. Now you are ready to add your fairy items. I have decided to place a water fountain in front of my tallest flowers so that it will become the main focal point of the garden.
6. For my road, I add miniature rocks from the fountain to the other end of the pot.
7. I continue adding pieces of garden furniture and accessories into my garden. I make sure that I am spreading them out, so that there is a since of flow and action in my fairy garden.
8. At last I add my fairies into their new enchanted garden home. I place them in positions where it appears that they are in the act of moving or partaking in an activity. You want your fairy garden to appear as if you have just stumbled by accident into their world and caught them in the act of being.
9. You are now ready to place your fairy garden where you can share and enjoy the enchantment. Be sure to water your garden lightly every other day or as needed. Your fairy garden requires light to moderate sunshine. If your garden will be inside, place it near a window that gets good sun exposure.

Winter Solstice Celebration in Nidlongdir

The Winter solstice celebrating takes place every year at the Gnomes Inn, and in the garden behind Apple Hold Castle. This celebration is a very old gnomish celebration that goes back to the time when the gnomes still lived in Valhalla. At that time there were no gifts, Santa Claus wasn’t born, and pancakes were a recipe jet to be invented. The gnomes hav… Continue

Thankful for so many things!

With the time of Thanksgiving drawing near, I am reminded that today would have been my sister, Dixie's, birthday. she was born in 1944 and died in 1992. she drowned in Key West, Florida. She and I were very close-Psychically connected. When she died, my world seemed to close in on me. Then in 1997, another sister, Suzanne, died. She died of Respiratory arrest in Santa Rosa, California. She was born in 1942. I was also psychically connected to her. My father died in 1997 and my husband died in 1… Continue

Magic Fairy Flowers and Trees

Magic Fairy Flowers and Trees

Nature is sacred!

MAGIC FAIRY TREES

ELDER trees offer protection to fairies from negative spirits. They may become offended by the misuse of the wood from the elder. Folklore advises to never lay a baby in an elder wood cradle or fairies spirit the baby away or pinch them so that they bruise.

Elderberry wine is considered fairy wine. Drinking it is said to enable you to see fairies. Add dried elderberries to an incense mixture that you burn to attract fairies to… Continue

All about Isaac

This blog is about a man I have known for more than 35 years. His name is Phillip Emmons Isaac Bonewits, known either as Isaac, or affectionately as ol’ Boney. Stephen called him Boneywits. It was he who gave me my 1st Order ordination in the RDNA. Actually, to be more exact, I was ordained into the SDNA (Schismatic Druids of North America), the schism he started, which became in a few years the ADF (Ar nDraiochta Fein our own Druidry). Recently he underwent surgery for two worrisome colonic cys… Continue

They’re only weeds if you don’t want them

Our garden has, for too long, been somewhat neglected. Not intentionally, it's a time thing, I'm sure many of you have the same problem!

Beyond the Veil

I have witnessed many such Tattoos in my years as a Tattoo Artist and it is always an honour and a privilege to be a part of something so deeply personal in a person's life. I have said before, much like the old saying "wearing your heart on your sleeve", Tattoos depict this visually, like lifting the veil to your soul.

The Ghosts of Kilmartin and The Kings of Dunadd

The journey took us through the Trossachs, which is wild with an array of colour from burnt oranges, reds aglow with the morning sun, and golden yellows. The mountains, which surround us on the road, cocoon us on our journey separating us off from the noisy chaotic world. Here you can breathe clean fresh air that fills your soul and makes your heart sing. The journey is enough to heal you from your heavy burdens of life

Summer Stood Naked

Summer stood naked but for glimpse of my eye

Collaborating with Faeries

I realize there are many members of Enchanted Folk who have had personal experiences with the Fae. I also know there are quite a few of you who channel faeries through your art, music or writing. Now, I would not tell this story to just anybody, but I know you Believe.

The Origins of the Fae, Part 1: Danu and the Tuatha de’Danaan

The farther back in time that we seek knowledge, at present, the less we actually have that says what was 'real' and what was the imaginative fancies of a storyteller. History becomes Legend, Legend becomes Myth, and all that we claim to 'know' is based on murky and incomplete reconstructions derived from scraps of parchment, papyrus, and chiseled stone markings that may or may not have been correctly translated.

Part Two - “The Almond Story”

Once upon a time, a small nation was plunged into civil war, leaving its people poor, dying, desperate. To escape, hundreds and thousands of people fled the country, risking death for the promise of safety in the golden country, any country but Vietnam.

Michaelmas Daisy: Aster Novi-belgii

Genus: Aster: Novi-belgii Meaning: Farewell. So named because it bloomed around St Michaels day, a festival celebrated on 29th September. Although now a Christian festival it has it roots firmly in ancient Pagan practices.

Hansel and Gretel, A Fairy Tale Opera for Autumn

Autumn is one of my favorite Seasons. I am in touch with SPIRIT OF THE FOREST, who is the Guardian of her Realm. She protects the Creatures dwelling in her Sacred Tree Cathedrals, as they prepare for winter's cold. And she oversees the progressive color change of leaf foliage, culminating in brilliant hues.

The Sisters of Fate

There is a painting by John William Waterhouse that shows the Fate who measures the thread of life tangled in the strand, looking tentative and uncertain, unwillingly bound by the thread. The Fates in trilogy keep close watch over Titania's journey, watching her make decisions that lead her toward them, and others that lead her away.

The Time of The Long Pipes Has Come!

Once again the year is turning! The wind is blowing form the north, and soon the nights will become bitterly cold here in Denmark. Aska the spirit of autumn will make sure the leaves will be decorated in red, yellow or brown colours, and in the mornings the frost will create lovely lace patterns on my windows, and I will light a candle to keep out the dark.

Autumn days with midnight skies

Autumn days with midnight skies scurrying squirrels with nuts to hide Sun going down burns an amber glow as bonfire embers spark in shards

The Sleeping Giant Awakes

The giant has just awakened from a century's long sleep and is moving from his resting place where he has become part of the landscape and geography. On his back are the trees and the shrubs that have grown there over the years along with the ruins of human habitations that have been built thereon long ago- castle-like structures and ruined edifices, all from a bygone era like the giant himself.

LADYBIRD and LORDBIRD BEETLES RULE!

Did you hear about, or see the recent fantastic photo of a tree inundated with lady beetles? It seems this is not unusual. Ladybeetles hibernate.

Atlantia

The harvest sun is swelling the pumpkins in my veg patch and mysterious mushrooms dot the lawn in the damp mornings. A new season heralds a new project in my studio...

Excerpts from The Nidlongdir Post.

Is King Apple Strong having a love affair? Elodie, who is the owner of one of the fashion shops in Upper Branch Road Leafenheim, claims that she has seen King Apple Strong walking hand in hand with a dark lady in the Queen's Garden, outside Apple Hold Castle. A representative of the royal court obstinately denies the rumors!

The Hidden Tree

I have some very exciting news! Marianne and I have discovered some hidden whispering leaves and books inside the Whispering Library, we spent two weeks during the summer reading under the trees there. The oak spirit, and caretaker of the library, even gave us two large moss pillows for the moss chairs so that we could spend the night reading by the moonlight.

I Left My Ghost in New Orleans

I miss the old haunted streets and buildings I know so well; I miss the true cajun people who are among the friendliest and most charming in the world; the voodoo; the Quarter's oldest ghost and vampire tour, the dark & rich New Orleans coffee smell wafting from Cafe du Monde, the jazz music on every street in the Vieux Carré.

Raven Call

When I have the opportunity to travel, I often go with my dear friend, Carla, whom I have known for over thirty years. It is always fun to travel with someone who has like interests and Carla is like a second sister to me. We both enjoy exploring off the beaten path finding places less people venture.
